INTRODUCTION
 
 
 
The Firefighter Cancer Decontamination Equipment Grant Program is established pursuant to Section 633.137, F.S. The Firefighter Cancer Decontamination Equipment Grant Program is created within the Division of State Fire Marshal to help protect the health and safety of firefighters in this state. The program will provide financial assistance to help fire departments, including career, combination, and volunteer agencies to procure equipment, supplies, and educational training designed to mitigate exposure to hazardous, cancer-causing chemicals. This grant program will only be implemented when funds have been allocated by the legislature to the Division for the grant period.  The current grant period (FY 22/23) has been funded at $500,000.
 
The purpose of this program is to provide partial funding to fire departments to improve the health and safety of Florida’s fire service personnel and to strive to achieve compliance with the Employer Cancer Prevention Best Practices, Rule 69A-37.503, F.A.C. The objective of this program is to award grants which require a 25% minimum match, to eligible fire departments on a financial need basis, to purchase equipment, supplies, and training designed to mitigate exposure to hazardous, cancer-causing chemicals.
